So I’ve now been using ClassDojo for about 4 years. When I first started using it I was skeptical – would it really work with S3 & 4 boys? But then I remembered how ridiculously competitive they can be for a sticker, so I gave it a go. ClassDojo was an instant hit! I used it sporadically in my previous post, but I was in and out on maternity leave and, to be honest, my head really wasn’t in the game. So it was only really when I started in my current post that I decided to take the bull by the horns and start fully implementing ClassDojo with all my classes at all levels.
I use Edmodo, not as much as I used to, but I used to spend a lot of time on the communities on Edmodo and one of those communities was for ClassDojo. A lot of educators from around the world would share their practice and invite comment on it. This is where I started assembling a lot of various ideas into a system I wanted to embed in my department. Although I have to confess that I learned the hard way that while some fellow educators may invite constructive comments on their ideas, they don’t actually want it and will turn on you and openly attack you for criticizing them. I am ever indebted to the lovely Australian teacher who came to my aid and supported my comments. I have since learned to keep my mouth shut. But that’s another story for another time. Suffice to say that all these ideas lay dormant until I could really start experimenting with them.
